Still Growing is a collection of short stories inspired by the photos taken by Janelle during her own experiences growing up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The tale of Thomas Carter is told through the trials and triumphs of childhood and adolescence in ten, one thousand-word stories. “A picture is worth a thousand words” was the quote that inspired this photography and writing book. She wrote each narrative in an attempt to revisit prompt-writing and short stories.
The photographs were all taken in Winnipeg to inspire a complementary writing piece. Janelle edited each photo in black and white but left the cover of the book in colour to give contrast. This project has helped Janelle grow in her writing and better understand her camera. Janelle learned how to use Adobe Lightroom and BookWright through her semester creating Still Growing.
